ready?

today was so long. i decided to paint my toenails. why? because i've decided that it's a good way to induce labor. hey, why not? there are all kinds of other stupid ways to induce labor. i won't elaborate on the ones i've tried... but just google it. by the way, none of them actually work (at least not the ones i tried). so, why not add "painting toenails" to the list?

i usually keep my toenails painted. my naked toes just look weird to me. but, with my huge belly preventing me from easily reaching my toes... i gave up. it's winter time. no one is going to see them anyway. then, today- i decided to make it a new way to induce labor. with all that bending and uncomfortable reaching... it has to put pressure on the baby to move down! (makes as much sense as the other methods, anyway.) and, soon i will be able to report that "i painted my toenails and my baby was born within 24 hours!"

really, i just painted my nails to pass time until my doctor appointment. the appointment went well. first, i had an ultrasound to check Eden's fluid. she has plenty of fluid, which means the placenta is still functioning quite well. we didn't get a picture, because her head was too far down, and her face was towards the back. (birth position!)

then, i headed to the doctor's office- where the nurse hooked me up for a non-stress test. she said she would set the timer for 15 minutes, and then come back. i read a magazine, while Eden kicked at the monitors. about 20 minutes later, the nurse came back and said everything looked great. Eden's heart rate was spiking in all the right places. she said she was going to leave me hooked up for another 10 minute, and she left.

40 minutes later- i thought i was going to die! do you have any idea how difficult it is to be 40+ weeks pregnant, and laying flat on your back? my hips and back were aching, and i started to feel like i was going to pass out. sooo... i hopped off the table, and pushed a giant red button that was on the wall. the nurse came running in. (hehe!) and, i told her i was done with the test. i could not lay on my back any longer. so, she unhooked everything. she had apparently forgotten i was in there, and didn't mention to the doctor that i was waiting to be seen. thanks, nurse.

finally, the doctor came in. she said all the tests looked great. good news for Eden. bad news for anyone hoping to meet Eden anytime soon. she said with plenty of fluid, and a happy baby- she had no reason to want to come out right now. she did my cervical check, and i have dilated another centimeter. (sooo... 1 cm per week... i should be ready to push in about 7 weeks) then, she said "we can go ahead and schedule the induction for tuesday."

at this point, i felt like a teenager who had just been grounded for the weekend. i said "seriously?! i cannot wait that long!" she started explaining how she wanted me to have a chance to go into labor on my own, and how induction doubles the risk of c-section. i told her that i knew all of that. i told her i was having too much anxiety over being overdue (briefly explained my paranoia) and said that i was willing to take the c-section risk- because i'm ready to get the healthy baby out before something bad happens. i also told her i didn't want to risk going into labor and having to deal with that asshole man-doctor.

annnnd- now i will be induced tomorrow morning! yay! wish me luck! (but don't mention anything on facebook... because i am sooooo tired of hearing the horror stories from all of our "expert on induction" friends). let's just keep this on the "down low" until Eden gets here. :)
